Welcome to the NextGen Committee of ASIS Puget Sound

The Next Generation (NextGen) Committee is dedicated to fostering engagement, growth, and professional development opportunities for emerging security professionals and students interested in the field. This committee focuses on bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world applications by providing mentorship, networking, and educational resources. The Chair of the committee ensures that the ASIS Puget Sound Chapter remains a welcoming and supportive platform for the next generation of leaders in security and public safety.

Key Mission

  1. Outreach and Engagement

    • Establish relationships with universities, colleges, and technical schools to attract students and young professionals to ASIS Puget Sound Chapter.
    • Promote chapter membership and activities to students and early-career professionals.
    • Coordinate outreach efforts to ensure diversity and inclusivity in NextGen programming.

  2. Program Development

    • Design and implement initiatives tailored to the needs of students and young professionals, including workshops, mentoring programs, and internships.
    • Organize career-oriented events such as job fairs, resume reviews, and skill-building workshops.
    • Collaborate with chapter leadership and external organizations to identify and address emerging trends in security relevant to younger members.

  3. Mentorship and Networking

    • Facilitate connections between experienced members and NextGen participants through structured mentorship programs.
    • Develop opportunities for networking and collaboration between students, early-career professionals, and established security leaders.
    • Highlight success stories of NextGen members to inspire and motivate participants.

  4. Community Building

    • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for NextGen members to share ideas, experiences, and challenges.
    • Foster a sense of belonging among NextGen participants by encouraging their involvement in chapter leadership and committees.
    • Serve as an advocate for NextGen members, ensuring their voices and perspectives are considered in chapter initiatives.

  5. Strategic Planning and Reporting

    • Develop an annual plan for NextGen initiatives that aligns with the chapter’s mission and strategic goals.
    • Track participation, engagement, and outcomes for NextGen programs, providing regular reports to chapter leadership.
    • Identify areas for growth and improvement in NextGen programming and propose actionable solutions.

Committee Chair Qualifications

Experience:

    • Experience in mentorship, youth programming, or professional development, preferably in a nonprofit or professional association setting.
    • Familiarity with the security industry and challenges faced by early-career professionals is preferred.

Skills:

    • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
    • Ability to manage and execute multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Proficiency with tools for virtual events and communications (e.g., Zoom, Slack, LinkedIn).

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

    • Participation Growth: Increase in NextGen membership and program attendance year-over-year.
    • Program Impact: Positive feedback from participants on the value of mentorship, networking, and educational programs.
